What is the T_SW_DIR pin on STLINK-V3?

I can't find any information about what the T_SW_DIR pin is on the STLINK-V3 products. I am planning to use a STLINK-V3MODS programmer in a project, but I can't find any other information about this pin, other than it is an output. Does anyone know what it is and what it's used for?

Would expect it reports the direction of the SWDIO pin to buffering circuitry, either level convertors or isolation

here is a reference design for a voltage translator circuit from st and if you look at the jtag section on page 3 it is used as a direction control
