Question

ST25DV-I2C RF Access Rights and Passwords

Hi all,

I want to protect some of the EEPROM areas of an ST25DV64KC Tag completely from RF access. This means that the area should under no circumstances be read- or writeable via RF unless the microcontroller changes the access via I2C.

For this example lets use Area 2. I have set RW_PROTECTION_A2 bits of RFA2SS to 11. For the PWD_CTRL_A2 Bits it says the following in the datasheet:
“00: Area 2 RF user security session cannot be open by password”
Does that mean that RF can never access (read or write) area 2 or that it is not protected at all since there is no password assigned to the area?

Also, why is it not possible to set the RF Passwords via I2C? I want the microcontroller connected to the tag to be able to set the passwords, otherwise I would have to programm the passwords into every produced device via a reader in order to overwrite the default “0” password. Therefore, the EEPROM (and configuration registers) would be basically unprotected until I set the passwords via RF since everyone knows the defaults.

Kind Regards,
Jonas
