Can I use other protection devices than TCPP for my USB Type-C™ application based on an STM32 MCU?

Yes. However, high-voltage control features may be missing in other protection circuits (gate drivers with charge pump for N-MOSFET, discharge paths, switch matrix on V_CONN/CC lines, analog current sense).
Also, TCPP companion chips make prototyping easy and fast thanks to affordable development tools from the STM32 ecosystem.
