For POWERSTEP01, (in Voltage Mode) does BEMF Compensation work when in External Step mode?

Does the chip measure time between microsteps to properly compensate BEMF when in voltage mode?

The answer is in external step mode, the motor is considered stopped, and no BEMF compensation is used,

so in other words, Voltage mode is almost completely useless when using external step mode, which is a tragedy

because I really needed the smoothness of voltage mode.
