How to connect st-link v2 with Tag-connect cable

Hi

I plan to program my MCU using a Tagconnect cable. I haven't bought the Tagconnect cable yet, nor the st-link v2, and I would like some recommendations.

Is anybody using this setup? What are your thoughts?

It also seems there are different versions of the st-link v2, but with the same name:

 

I prefer the small thumb-drive like, if they are functionally equivalent.

The thumb-drive one is a boot-leg design.

Should however present 3.3V and 5.0V at the connector, could power with that.

The Authentic ST-LINK/V2 provides power via pin 19 of the 20-pin JTAG header, whereas pin 1 and 2 expect the Target's voltages for the buffers on the pins.

My programmer arrived in the mail yesterday. Chinese clone ofthe original.

I'm programming an STM8, so I'm using the SWIM interface. No power out from that one I suppose, only sensing?

I'm not using the STM8 / SWIM

Like I said both those pods will have power available, so use a flying wire as necessary, and use a multi-meter to check the pin levels. Will take you a few seconds to confirm.

Yes we use the tag-connect cables on our boards. We use the ST-Link-V2, (the white one in your picture) the tag-connect adapter, and the tag connect cable (10 pin version)
