PCB Placement and Mechanical Mounting Guidelines – ISM6HG256X IMU Sensor
Hello everyone,
Good morning.
We are planning to use the ISM6HG256X IMU sensor in an electric vehicle (EV) application.
I have reviewed the available placement and PCB layout guidelines, but I need clarification on a few points regarding sensor placement, mechanical mounting, and our two-PCB architecture.
Our current design:
-
We are using two interconnected daughter PCBs: PCB A (bottom board) and PCB B (top board).
-
The two PCBs are connected through a header-based interface.
-
The ISM6HG256X sensor is placed near the center of PCB A, on the top side of the board.
-
PCB A has three mounting holes and will be mounted inside the vehicle enclosure.
My technical questions are as follows:
-
IMU placement: Is placing the ISM6HG256X at the center of PCB A, on the top side, sufficient for accurate vehicle motion and orientation measurements? Would placing the sensor on the bottom side of the PCB provide any advantages or disadvantages?
-
Mechanical mounting: For an EV application, should the PCB be mounted directly to the enclosure, or should the IMU sensor be mechanically coupled to the enclosure body? What mounting method is recommended to minimize measurement errors caused by vibration and mechanical resonance?
-
Two-PCB architecture: Could using two interconnected PCBs with a header-based interface introduce any issues related to vibration, mechanical stability, or IMU measurement accuracy? Are there any specific recommendations for the header connection and PCB arrangement?
-
PCB clearance and stack-up: What minimum clearance should be maintained between the two PCBs? Are there any specific PCB thickness, stack-up, mounting-hole, or mechanical design recommendations for this type of application?
-
EV application guidelines: Are there any additional placement, orientation, vibration isolation, or mechanical mounting recommendations for using the ISM6HG256X in an automotive or EV environment?
i used the bellow link for my refrence but i need some more info,

Could you please share any relevant application notes, PCB layout guidelines, reference designs, or mechanical mounting recommendations for this sensor?
Your technical guidance would be very helpful, as we are currently working on the PCB placement and mechanical integration.
Thank you for your time and support.
