VL53L4ED || Possibility of making the this TOF FoV much narrower || Availability of any off the shelf lens.

My test condition

As you can see the detection volume of FoV is going outside the reflective block (blue block) and I am not getting accurate reading. I want to know whether there is a way to make the FoV much narrower so that I can concentrate on the reflective block placed opposite to the TOF sensor.

Hi:

From a technical point of view, the ToF sensor’s FoV can be made narrower by adding an external optical lens/window system, so the originally fixed FoV is optically concentrated onto a smaller area.

However, from a practical application and compliance perspective, there is an important caution:

The ToF sensor’s built-in VCSEL has already been validated for eye safety in its intended optical configuration.

If you add an extra lens and make the emitted beam more concentrated, the optical power density can increase.

In that case, the original eye-safety qualification may no longer apply, and the final product would typically need to be re-evaluated and re-certified for eye safety.

So, in short:

Yes, technically the FoV can be narrowed with external optics.

But doing so may require a new eye-safety validation of the final optical system.

Hi FAN,

Eye-safety is not a concern in my application as I am not going to place this any where near the human access. Can you please suggest any off the shelf lens part for concentarting this IR FoV.
