"Something's gone wrong" when posting a reply

I typed up a reply, all text, and hit submit. Then a message pops up saying Something’s gone wrong and my entire message is erased. No indication as to what happened. I’m logged in normally, nothing special going on from my side. Guess I have to copy my message to clipboard before hitting send.

I’m seeing this with increasing frequency, too.

Andrew has reported this a while ago, although that thread’s title is maybe not the most indicative one, as he did not know at the time of writing that the post has been saved thus he suspected the more serious problem of post loss - but then, do we know for sure the posts will always be saved even when this happens?.

Yes, I’ve seen this a number of times - most recently only yesterday.

As @waclawek.jan linked, it does (sometimes?) seem that the post has actually gone through - simply doing a page refresh in the browser (often?) shows that the post was actually accepted:

On the old forum, at least the whole post didn’t disappear when you got the dreaded red “HTML error” !

I’ve just had a case where this did not work - everything I’d typed was just gone, and not recoverable.

I had to re-do it all from scratch.

PS:

On posting this, I got another “Something’s gone wrong” - this time the refresh did work.

Hi all,

Do you still experience the same? If yes, it would be useful to receive the link to the post where you have this issue so we can investigate it further.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Zita

I just had a case where I pressed ‘Send’, and the entire post I had composed just disappeared - I didn’t even get the error message!

Fortunately, after a refresh, it was there.

And just now I did get the red error.

Each time I pressed ‘Send’ after that, I got an extra error:

Finally did a Browser refresh, and the comment had been posted.

Possibly related?

Hi @Andrew Neil @TDK @waclawek.jan

This issue is still under investigation. While I sent the shared links to support, they asked for the exact replies that you experienced this issue with to dig deeper. Mentioning a username with several replies under one post was not enough for them to find out more.

Would you be able to confirm exact replies, ideally within the 7-8 day timeframe?

Thank you and best regards,
Zita

2 of the above links are to specific posts.

Other than that, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to remember now.

One topic I reply at Aug 5th or 6th morning (PST):

“Some of STM32 IO pin change logic from default logic during reset release”

Got this issue.

I just got this error now.

Yeah, that’s frustrating. Copying the reply before hitting submit is probably the safest workaround for now. Hopefully it’s just a temporary forum glitch.

At least the old forum used to save drafts - so when it went wrong, you didn’t lose everything.

It still happens.

I got it just now when replying to the opening post here:
