(option to) show replies chronological

[unsigned_char_array]

Right now replies are shown reddit-style, not classic forum style. An newer reply can show up much higher in a topic than an older reply. I don’t think it makes sense in a forum like this as you won’t have many nested discussions (if it’s off topic a new topic will/should be created). I only click reply on a reply so I can quote it and respond to it. Not to create a deeper nesting.
I’d like an option to disable it.

I saw it when I clicked a notification in this topic and it didn’t bring me to the post. I scrolled down and didn’t see a new post.

I had to use CTRL+F to find it. Though I cannot reproduce that issue anymore.

Thanks for raising this. The nested replies is a native platform functionality. We also had it on the previous platform and had to keep it to ensure the right data migration. For now, we don’t consider disabling it for the same reason.

The false notification was caused by the spamming activity on the thread, that was shared by ​@Andrew Neil .

If you notice any other issues with notification let us know.

No it wasn’t spam. I tried to explain it in that topic, but one reply of mine was moved by a moderator and the other reply is collapsed. The fact you didn’t see that proves my point how confusing hiding newer replies higher in the topic under a collapsed menu.

I believe ​@unsigned_char_array meant the flat chronological view as an *option*. It was available as an option with Khoros, too, wasn’t it?

I would much prefer the flat presentation to be the default.  If I wanted to play a video game I’d go play a video game!  🤖

Also, the reply count on the summary page doesn’t seem to represent the actual number of replies in the thread.

To clarify I have two main problems:

1. large topics are hard to follow if they have many reply answers as they are scattered all over the topic
2. many nested replies are collapsed by default and need to be expanded, while they are just as valuable (unlike reddit, where deeper nesting often means more off topic or more into a sub discussion)

In addition not being able to edit answers anymore will cause more replies now and there will be even more answers in topics adding to the chaos.

 

In the old forum it was chronological too. Why was it changed?

I just like to have the option to view it chronologically. It doesn’t need to be the default

It’s ridiculous to have to expand threads to see past the first level of replies. Makes following longer conversations hard.

Are there any users who prefer the threaded view?

Chronological order is much more effective for the type of content posted here.
