'Best Answer' is misleading - should be 'Solution'

On the old forum, we had ‘Mark As Solution’

This is good: people come to the forum looking for solutions - so it is important to mark when a solution is found.

 

The current forum calls this ‘Best Answer’ instead.

This is bad: the best answer  does not necessarily solve the problem!

 

It is misleading and does confuse new members - see:

The forum itself backs this up:

A solution is what people are looking for !

 But  I always get the feeling: “solution” or “best answer” ...also tend to present the final resolution of any problem—which, in most cases, can only be carried out by the user themselves—as *the* solution. However, what should actually be highlighted here is the crucial piece of advice that leads to the solution. Not the final: “now i did it and it works now.”

Therefore, my suggestion would be to mark the "answer that leads to the solution" instead .

@mƎALLEm ​@AScha.3 there’s really 2 separate issues here:

1. Identifying the solution to the issue(and, thus, that the issue is solved).
2. Crediting those who contributed to the solution.

I think this should be split-off to a separate discussion (in feedback).

 

So here we are.

 

And “Identifying the solution to the issue” is almost useless, see:

But this is no useful help for anybody else, as he has to search the info: what was the way to get to the solution.

So i still think, the best indication, what to do or read, is to be marked. Not the “I did it, and it works now.” .

No, it is not.

That’s just confirming that the issue was solved; the post which said how to solve it is the one which should be marked as The Solution.

Right, but many users see it this way. They did the solution. And basically they are right - right ?

I had many of these kind…

Thats why i think: mark just “solution” is not the best idea.
