Question

Abandoned threads

There are a lot of abandoned threads; eg,

with no useful replies at all.

That one is 2 years old, and still open for comments.

Another:

Also 2 years old, but that one is closed for comments.

The final comment there looks like it is probably the solution, but no confirmation or other feedback from the OP.

I think we needs a way to distinguish these abandoned threads from.

They should probably be excluded from consideration as ‘Related topics’ - which is how I came across these 2.

Not a new issue - it was the same on the old forum - and not urgent.

But another for the “future enhancements” list … ?

Hi @Andrew Neil,

Thank you for the feedback.

On the previous platform, the system made threads read only when no activity occurred for more than two years. In the one example provided, the thread is still open because it received a reply one year ago. The same rule applies here as well.

From time to time, the team also cleans up threads with zero replies after a certain period.

Regarding the related content topic component, I am still investigating the feature and will get back on this thread: How are "Related Topics" chosen ? | Community

Kind regards,
Lina

I think that needs to be significantly reduced!

If a thread hasn’t had any activity for a couple of months that’s a pretty sure sign that it’s been abandoned.

The TI forum has a useful feature where a locked thread gets an ‘Ask A Related Question’ button: it starts a new thread, and automatically provides a link back to the locked one.

A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.

Thanks @Andrew Neil. The rule has been reviewed to reducing the timeframe to 1 year. We will keep the option open to reduce it further if needed.
