Posts are there. Just re-sorted.
Here we go. Answering my own questions again.
I suspect this new format is going to take a while to get used too. At least one can find one own posts now, and hopefully edits won't change the thread chronology.
Editing this to show an edit beyond 15 mins, actions include Edit and Delete.
It certainly is FASTER.. !
I'm posting for info and playing with all the buttons to see what happens. Of course I posted a "DISCUSSION" which I actually have a QUESTION DOH!
I haven't found the EDIT button for THAT level of goof yet but this autosave thing * I like *....
OOOO... Edit button worked.... Now If I can find how to change DISCUSSION to QUESTION!
Edit should be under "actions", but seems missing/disabled at this point. Needs to get fixed
Ok you can Edit or Remove with the "Actions" button but it depends on the view you are using. You need to open the thread in it's own view rather than where you normally reply (activity, multiple thread view).
WHAT? You can actually edit a post and not have the forum software crap its pants and eat the content.
Zounds that's real progress.
Hi Clive One and shingadaddy
This is Francesco from ST Community's project team.
On the bottom left of your comment there is a button:
and inside it you'll find the "edit" command.
Please let me know if it's missing, I can ask our engineers to fix it.
I see Edit / Remove in the singular thread view, but responding to this post pressing Actions gets "No Actions Available" on my own posts and "Give a Badge" on those from others.
Hi Clive One,
I just noticed that the way Jive (the software on which ST Community runs) is presented on your computer is different from the one it is presented on mine (I use Google Chrome version 55)
Above is on your machine, below on mine:
Can you please try again with Chrome v55 and take a screenshot of the Actions menu in case the "edit" command is still not visible?
Like I said there are at least two views of messages. I see your style when I click on the thread title and I have the single up thread view. And I see the style I presented when I'm in the nested/tree view of multiple threads. Often when I scroll back up and when I've just responded and want to do a quick edit for spelling/grammar.
When I see your view I have Edit/Delete for my threads (no 15 min lock outs), and Give a Badge for other. In the other view Actions offers no options.
Using Chrome v54, really doubt it makes a difference, pretty sure I'm seeing this in Firefox also. Will update to v55 in a second.
the 15 mins lockout applies to marking a discussion as question and viceversa
I know the browser question was a very basic one but given that there is still quite a number of IE users around, I first had to start from that
Ok, this is with current FireFox 50.0.2, getting to this thread via my "inbox"
So that response was a Reply from the Inbox thread click.
And here is where I go to the top of the screen and click the thread title to pull up the primary view
Also noting that the forum software decimates the original image, and there is no way to click to get the original. In another thread Hasan attaches a large screen shot which is unreadable in the preview or clicked versions. For screen shots to be useful we need to be able to see the original and be able to zoom ideally to get a 1:1 image if the screen sizes aren't compatible (think phone/tablet)
Edit: Ok clicking on this image gets me an original, that fits on my screen as I've already cropped it to fit. But Hasan's first post screen shot here is unusable, and I'm assuming it is the forum software, as I've used others that do this to save server space too.
regarding the "No actions are available" issue, I have let our engineers know and we'll be back to you shortly.
Regarding the screenshots, they are uploaded at full resolution, if you click on it and right-click --> "open in an new tab" you'll see that the readability is excellent
Odd, now the image in Hasan's post is displaying differently, and I can get it at full resolution.
I was trying to hunt down a way to change my selected topic from DISCUSSION to a QUESTION. Not a big deal but just trying things out. New site forum community seems very nice indeed.
You can set a discussion as a question on creation
and you have max 15 mins after posting to change from one to another, then becomes definitive.
Try opening a new one and play with it so you can see how it works
Hope this clarifies
There are 2 views for the Actions menu, one in the Recent Activity thread which is limited (more a 'quick' type Actions menu' then a more detailed one once you are actually in the thread.
Additionally admins/moderators have a few extra rights when it comes to other people's content. If I haven't answered your question let me know and we can dive deeper.
I should be able to edit a thread at any point, in any view. If I just Replied to a thread the View and Actions must permit an Edit to be selected, my complaint is that it says "No actions are available". The UI / UX are clearly broken from a basic usability standpoint, aside from any admin/moderation rights.
I clicked your response to this thread in my Inbox view, as you can see I can Reply, but Edit is not an available action.
Here as I've just posted my response, and the thread/screen updates to show the new post
The behaviour is broken..
So the behaviour is not broken, the Actions menu is currently restricted to admins and ST employees which is why it is empty for you. The Actions menu contains a feature that assigns a status to content, its just not something that is available to end users at the moment.
This may change and we will let users know if it does.
