LSM303 - single proof mass?

Question asked by tran.trung.002 on May 7, 2015
I'm a researcher at the University of Sydney using an Adafruit IMU to create a prototype measuring instrument. My background is in Civil engineering, so I'm not too versed in electronics.

To help evaluate the performance of the instrument, I need to know whether its 3-axis accelerometer (LSM303) is comprised of 3 separate single-axis accelerometers, or if the sensing is done with a single proof mass. It would be great to have a citeable source for this information also.

This kind of information is available in this handy article for gyroscopes but I haven't been able to find a similar article for STM accelerometers.
