Multiple discovery boards?

I can load the Windows USB driver (into a VM--I don't oen any actual Windows box), and plug in a discovery board and all is well. Can update firmware, load stuff, etc. But when I try to connect another apparently identical board, I get a USB "device not recognized" error. Should I be able to connect more than one board? I can program them with st-link under Linux, but there are some things the Windows GUI thing would be handy for.
