Hi STMicroelectronics Support Team,

My name is Shuvadeep Mazumder, and I am the Founder & CEO of Model of Engineering (https://modelofengineering.com). I am currently leading the development of a custom surveillance drone, for which we have selected the STM32N657X0H3Q as the main processing unit.

I am reaching out to request comprehensive technical support regarding both hardware design and software/firmware development for this project.

Project Overview

  • Objective: Custom board design for a surveillance drone
  • Target features:
    • Memory: 64 MB external SDRAM (proposed as 32 MB + 32 MB) and 500+ MB NOR Flash
    • Imaging: 1 × 8 MP camera interface
    • Sensors & Perception: Multiple sensors including LiDAR for obstacle detection and navigation
    • AI Capabilities: Onboard AI for target tracking and autonomous decision-making
    • Autonomy: Real-time processing for self-directed actions and mission execution

Current Challenges:

  • Conflicting datasheet information regarding SDRAM, NOR Flash, and other components for a single custom board.
  • Complexity in STM32CubeMX configuration and setup for STM32N657X0H3Q, including bootloader and application initialization.
  • Uncertainty regarding recommended hardware components to ensure reliable high-speed memory and camera interface operation.
  • Challenges in integrating AI tools and algorithms with onboard sensors, camera, and LiDAR for target tracking and autonomous decision-making.

Request for Support

We would greatly appreciate guidance on the following:

  • Recommended hardware components: SDRAM, NOR Flash, and camera interface suitable for STM32N657X0H3Q.
  • Board design best practices: FMC connections, address/data/control line wiring, timing considerations, power design, and layout guidance.
  • Firmware and Application Setup:
    • Configuration using STM32CubeMX and other relevant tools.
    • Initialization and management of external memories (SDRAM, NOR Flash).
    • Integration of the camera interface and other sensors.
    • Guidance on bootloader setup and application initialization.
    • Recommended libraries, middleware, or example code to accelerate development.
    • Support for AI tool integration for target tracking and autonomous decision-making.
  • Reference designs or documentation: Any ST reference schematics, evaluation board designs, or step-by-step guidelines for similar applications.
