Hi,

How can I tell for sure if a microcontroller supports Field Oriented Control for BLDC motors? I am particularly interested in STM32F303VC and STM32L4R7VI.

  • The
  • STM32F303VC for sure does that because I remember reading that it, or a closely related processor, is used in an FOC motor drive SDK.
  • But I am not sure about the STM32L4R7VI, since for one thing, it has only two sets of overcurrent protection and current sensing networks. And for a three phase motor you need three of these.

But is there any site or document that clearly states this?

Does the STM32L4R7VI support FOC? Maybe it can but it's not an ideal processor for this purpose?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
