Can't install ST-LINK Utility on Win7 computer

I am trying to use the ST-LINK Utility for the first time to

program an STM32F205RGT. I can download and uncompress the

.zip file, but when I try to run it, InstallShield plays for

a few seconds and aborts in a dialog box with:

  ''1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.''

I am using 64-bit Windows 7 and tried installing it in XP

compatibility mode (Service pack 2 & 3), to no avail.

Has anybody successfully installed this on a Win7 system?

Yes, although it's unclear which version of the utility you're using. Used the ST-LINK on assorted Win7 x64 machines.

Consider if you have AV software interfering with things, if you have administrative rights, and don't have any settings precluding the use of USB ports, or unsigned drivers, etc.

I am using whatever version one can download from:

  · The link is marked with '3.6'.

  · The [Download] button is tied to a file called

    stsw-link004.zip

  · When you look inside, it contains one file:

    'STM32 ST-LINK Utility_v3.5.exe'

This is what I ran to get the diagnostic box mentioned

above.

I have had full admin rights for over a month and have

installed many items, troublefree until now.

I talked one of my co-workers into trying it on his machine

and he succeeded, so there is something peculiar about my

hardware.

We should have the same anti-virus configurations, so that

is unlikely.

All the help MicroSoft provides applies only to Windows XP

installations. This isn't supposed to happen on Windows 7.

May be you can have your IT people come poke it?

AV is the primary cause for installation failures. Also make sure you actually unpack the ZIP to a non Desktop directory (ie a real one), and run it from there.

You could also try from a different user, in case your user space is snarled up.

I broadcast the link to the installation software to my

entire department, asking everyone to try to install it. One

guy succeeded, and because I have grim deadlines looming, we

continued work on his machine alone.

The version installed called itself 3.6. I am having

problems with it, but they no longer fit the title of this

thread so I have opened a new one, at:

A final follow-up to prior comments.

After some arm twisting, I talked our MIS folks into

dusabling my anti-virus.

The installation worked like a hose!  We turned anti-virus

back on and the utility runs.  Sorry it took me so long to

try this and thanks to all who suggested this.

Try to change your local language setting to your Windows language,

For example,

if your Windows 7 is Traditional Chinese version, set the Non-Unicode language to Traditional Chinese(same as your Windows language version) in control panel,

I had ''1607: Unable to install InstallShield Script Runtime'' when the Non-Unicode language was set to English, after change the language to Traditional Chinese, it works.
