Is it wrong that AN5561 shows the distance mode?

I have a question;

Recently, I got the sample of VL53L3CX and evaluated the spec with GUI(STSW-IMG016).

According to the AN5561, VL53L3CX seems to have the 3 modes, "Short", "Medium" and "Long".

However, I couldn't find the mode option on the GUI.

Then I checked the datasheet of VL53L3CX, the 3 modes were not defined.

Thanks in advance

With the L3 we do something tricky to get the longest distance. There are actually two mini-ranges with different pulse repetition rates. If both these answers are the same then the object is close and no issues.

But if the results are different, then we can discern there was some "radar aliasing" going on.

(I'll let you Google that one.)

if there is aliasing then by knowing the wrap around point, we can infer where the target is.

And this technique works better in 'Medium' mode. Medium gets more reflected photons than long mode.

So, for the L3, we standardized on the 'medium' as the best.

We then kind of deprecated the other modes.
