Can the LM258A operate from a split supply? I'm looking at an application that would require a -5V and +16V split supply.

Yes, of course. It can work in the whole range of 3...30V, which is the possible voltage difference between VCC+ and VCC-. It doesn't matter, if it is

  • VCC+=0V and VCC-=30V (i.e. working below zero volts) or
  • VCC+=30V and VCC-=0V (i.e. working above zero volts) or
  • anything between, with the max difference of 30V (absolute max 32V)
