How to put a FreeRTOS application in STOP2 mode (STM32L4)

FGome

In specific circunstances (power available, ...) I want to put the MCU in STOP2 mode. That decision is taken on a FreeRTOS task. I've tried some approaches but the MCU didn't stop at all. Is there any example available using FreeRTOS? The code I'm using (not working) is the following:

			/* suspend scheduler*/
			vTaskSuspendAll();

			/* disables Interrupt requests, interrupts will still be able to wake up the system*/
			__disable_irq();

			__HAL_RCC_PWR_CLK_DISABLE();
			__HAL_PWR_CLEAR_FLAG(PWR_FLAG_WU);

			HAL_SuspendTick();
			HAL_PWREx_EnterSTOP2Mode(PWR_STOPENTRY_WFI);
			HAL_ResumeTick();

			/* System sleeps here*/

			__HAL_PWR_CLEAR_FLAG(PWR_FLAG_WU);
			/* on wake up, restore system clock*/
			HAL_RCC_DeInit();
			SystemClock_Config();

			/* check interrupts now*/
			__enable_irq();

			/*resume scheduler*/
			xTaskResumeAll();

Do you have any suggestion to change? In the final code I want it to be able to wake up when some pins change state, and also using the RTC, but for now I was only focused on the MCU stop.

Thanks in advance

Fernando

Hi,

I just solved this problem recently using FreeRTOS's configPRE_SLEEP_PROCESSING hooks. I created a blog post about it:

You should look into FreeRTOS "tickless idle", but remember that it's not tickless unless you make it tickless (the name is a bit misleading). Basically, the tickless idle is called, when the OS sees that there is time to sleep (no task needs to run). The maximum sleeping time is given as parameter to the function, and it can also indicate "indefinite time".

Also, there should not be any interrupts pending. If there are, the processor refuses to go into stop mode (the 'wfi' is considered as 'nop').

The debugger can also keep the stop mode from taking place.

Thanks for your answer! Since I'm only using STOP2 mode because I need to wake up on generic GPIO pins but will do a device reset when it wakes (so the behavior is more like in standby mode), will it be possible to stop it even not using tickless idle mode, since I won't need FreeRTOS after waking-up because I'll reset the device?

Best regards

Hello,

I tried to start from an example that i created from CubeMx, this is the generated main with my modification to implement the STOP2 mode :

In StartDefaultTask I put the Stop2 mode function, I also configured the GPIO_PIN PA0 as wake-up (PA0 --> 3.3V) pin.

Note : this example for STM32L476-nucleo board.
