"Stale" and Connection issues with LightBlue with BlueNRG-1?

How "reliable" should the connection be to PunchOut's LightBlue app?

With -86dBm, I can connect to it ~40% of the time (other times it returns "no data" and goes back to the scanning screen)... below -93 dBm, I can see it, but I can't connect at all.

And if I haven't interacted with the device for a little while (guessing around a minute?), LightBlue says the connection has gone "Stale" and I should reconnect.

  1. Is this something I can/should debug or is it just LightBlue's lack of error handling?
  2. How would you debug this?
