Correct Solder Bridge Setting when using Vbat?

HI,

I'm using a Nucleo-F429ZI with a CR2032 connected to the Vbat pin to keep my RTC going when supply power is lost. In the Nucleo manual (UM1974), the Vbat solder bridge setting (SB156) connects VDD with Vbat, and the default config has the solder bridge on. Am I correct to understand that this solder bridge (SB156) is supposed to be removed if I want to connect a battery to Vbat?

When I currently use the Nucleo-F429ZI with the solder bridge on, and disconnect supply power to enter into Vbat mode, I have the current draw from the battery fluctuating between ~20 to 50 mA. I am wondering if this solder bridge might be the cause of this high current draw?

My program while in Vbat mode is also continuing to transmit to an LCD screen (but every 30 seconds rather than every second as specified in my code). I'm also wondering if this is a related issue to the solder bridge?
