Unable to get STM32 and ST-LINK V2 programmer to work properly within TrueStudio

I am actually cross posting this question, I will include the original link below.

I have been trying to get my env set up for two days and keep running into this issue; i have installed all the software to the best of my knowledge ( using arch linux os ). As mentioned I have the Stm Link programmer V2 and my board is the blue pill STM32F103C8T6. Complete conversation can be found here : https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/445372/st-link-version-2-on-arch-linux-not-working

Only update from the link I provided above is I tried to install a firmware upgrade on the st link v2 dongle and now my light on the dongle stays solid and does not blink blue/purple when I open the st link GUI or when running st-flash within the command line. Within TrueStudio when I run Debug it will say that the cable is not connected properly when I have triple checked everything., other times it will just say it cannot find the device.

Really not sure how to go from here; i'm new to embedded environments and am struggling to get going.

FOUND IT! this is the most insidious thing ever but the pin out was WRONG on the cover! I will include the link here from the amazon review I bought the product from, but in case it gets removed or something.. take the cover off and actually look at the pin out!! the cover was not correct the swc had to be swapped with the swio.

You should have mentioned that the question is not about original ST-LINK/V2 but a chinese clone.

More serious non-expensive debuggers:
