I would like to ask if its possible two points to communicate each other with nfc? More precisely i want each point to receive and send data. Is there a development kit for nfc in st that you suggest? Thanks in advance, Nick

Hi Nick,

Communications can be achieved in different modes and between devices in different roles.

Please find bellow the possible configurations:

  • Passive mode
    • RW (Reader <-> Card / Device Performing CE mode - CE/P2P Target)
      • ST25R3911B
      • ST25R3916
      • ST25R395
    • CE (CE <-> Reader/ Device in Poller mode - RW/P2P Initiator)
      • ST25R3916
  • Active Mode
    • AP2P Poller and Listener
      • ST25R3911B
      • ST25R3916

In short, if you are looking to:

  • communicate with cards or other devices in CE mode all devices can perform
  • communicate with other devices in RW/P2P Initiator mode you can use ST25R3916
  • communicate with the same device (ST25R <-> ST25R)
    • In Active mode both ST25R3911B and ST25R3916 support AP2P
    • In Passive mode the following configuration is possible: ST25R3916 <-> ST25R3916 and ST25R3911B (RW) <-> ST25R3916 (CE)

Hi Nick,

Sure, NFC (Near Field Communication) is used to communicate between two devices.

There are different modes that can be used over NFC: Passive and Active communication mode.

You can use ST25R devices to perform NFC communication according to the application and use cases you require. Each product has several development kits available.

Kind regards

Thank you Grégoire for your immediate answer. I saw the ST25R devices from the link you sent. For my application i want each device to send and receive data. I don not want it for POS, just simple data tranmission. Which product should i use?
