[Help] I killed my STM32F746G Discovery board through the adc port

I'll tell you my sad story because of a bad manipulation of the device.

Never take a call while you are sketching a project with the adc.

  • Device: STM32F746G Discovery Board
  • What happened? : I fed the ADC3_IN0 pin with a signal of approximately 10V for a few seconds.
  • Fail: The screen and other LEDs gave me a quick visual warning that they stopped working. Obviously I can not send any program to the device.
  • Remarks: No charred component is visible.

The LD7 turns red.

Windows detects the device and opens the usual Discovery storage unit

  • Suspicions: The microcontroller died or burned one or more voltage regulators.
  • Solution: ?

Maybe some technician internalized with the device has a quick idea that it could have been burned or it could guide me to check the burned component (s) in order to replace them and revive my beloved multiproposit device.

Measure the voltages off the regulators.

Measure the voltages on the VCAP pins/capacitors.

Chances are you'll have to replace the F746 chip as you've likely vaporized the metalization and poly-silicon in the current's path on the die. Much better fuses than the PCB traces and gold wires.

The ST-LINK USB connection is to an F103 chip, but does suggest that 3.3V regs are working still.
