Dear Experts ,

basically i am a embedded engineer but i don't have a knowledge in signal processing area, so i need your help for design UHF rfid reader for long range max 10feet is enough. anybody can help me to stay in wright track still complete the design.

which is the best IC for my design?

there is any example design, code for my need?

How to start with out knowledge based on DSP.

Dear Kannannatesh,

your antenna is basically suitable to the ST25RU3993 evaluation kit. But please take care of the antenna connection. This antenna has a female N-Type connector and our eval kit has SMB-connectors.

This means, that you will need certain connector adapter.

Our latest eval kits have an SMB to SMA-male cable included. So you would only need an adapter, which has SMA-female to male N-type. Here an example-link: https://www.digikey.in/product-detail/en/cinch-connectivity-solutions-aim-cambridge/29-3840/367-1017-ND/385342

I hope you have got the FAE-contact in the meanwhile. Please ask him about the latest eval kit, which includes the SMB to SMA cable.

Best regards,

Marcel

Dear Natesh,

at first I would recomment to use our ST25RU3993 reader IC evaluation board:

https://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/products/evaluation-tools/product-evaluation-tools/st25-nfc-rfid-eval-tools/st25-nfc-rfid-eval-boards/st25ru3993-eval.html#sw-tools-scroll

This would help you to get familiar with the UHF RFID technologie.

There is the source for the firmware available:

https://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/products/embedded-software/st25-nfc-rfid-software/stsw-st25ru003.html

There is no need to have a lot of knowledge in digital signal processing. This will done by the IC and our current software. It is important to understand the protocol:

Dear @Marcel Rossignol

thanks for your suggestion and i want to design low cost UHF reader and this Evaluation cost is 299USD with out any antenna and if i choose this model i must follow this design and BOM files it may be come at same cost like 300USD. how can i complete i low cost, if you have any suggestion please let me know, thank you.

Dear Kannannatesh,

300 USD are already low cost. Please see here an overview about UHF RFID reader pricing:

https://www.atlasrfidstore.com/rfid-readers/?sort=priceasc

Please take also into account that you will need a very well performing reader (output power & sensitivity) for a challanging application like an automatic parking system. The ST25RU3993 could handle this.

If the current evaluation board is too expensive, you would need an experienced RF HW engineer in order to design your own low cost reader PCB.

Marcel

Dear @Marcel Rossignol

thanks for your answer and if i choose ST25RU3993 reader IC evaluation board for my design which type antenna is suitable for this kit?

how much i spend for a antenna?

it's possible to read and write in RFID cards and can you please say about supported RFID card types?

thank you

Dear Kannannatesh,

the most suitable antenna for your application is an outdoor far field antenna. The antenna gain should be as high as possible (at least 6 dBi) and the frequency range should be the right one. For example in India there is the UHF RFID frequency range from 865 - 867 MHz.

I do not know exactly the costs but it will be between 100 and 200 USD.

Please take also the right connection cable into consideration.

We speak in the UHF RFID world more from tags or labels instead of cards. But your are right, these tags/labels could be included into cards for certain applications (like access control).

Further I will send you the contact of our local Indian FAE. He can help you directly.

Best regards,

Marcel

Dear @Marcel Rossignol

thanks for your answer, and suggestions. i was search in google about far field antenna got one link

https://www.barcodesinc.com/cats/rfid-antennas/Environment=Outdoor/Gain=6_dBiL/far-field.htm?page=1&search=

please check and let me know it's a suitable to ST25RU3993 evaluation kit or not.

and send me a local FAE contact information as soon as possible.

thank you
