Solar panel charger design using SPV1040

Hello,

I’m trying to design a solar panel charger circuit! There will be 6V, 12V or 12V one solar panel and I need to charge the lithium battery 3.7V. A tricky bit is that when 6V solar panel is used, it needs to charge the battery and the battery will provide the power. But when 12V or 24V solar panel is used, then it needs to charge the battery but also supply the power directly, so the battery would be like a backup option.

I’m thinking to use SPV1040 IC. And I need to design some voltage detection circuit that would know if I’ve got 6V solar panel connected or 12V. I’m thinking to use a step down circuit before the SPV1040 circuit. I’m not sure if it will work with 6V panel.

Then the rest of the electronics require 5V power supply, therefore I will be using a step up from 3.7V to 5V when the battery is used.

Do you think it’s a right thing to do? Any advice will be highly appreciated!

Thank you!

Kind Regards,

Emilija
