USB/STM3 newbie questions from Galaxy RS232/Planet 8051

This will be the first in a series of USB/STM32 newbie questions.

PrimerVirtualCom1.1's readme.txt downloaded from

http://www.stm32circle.com/projects/project.php?id=21

mentions ''the application USB2COMn.'' I don't see this file in the PrimerVirtualCom1.1 package. Google returns many hits on ''USB2COM,'' and searching my hard drive yields nothing. Can somebody recommend a copy of USB2COM.exe to download? Are they all the same? Is any known to be virus-free etc? Is this Windows application? Is it a .exe file?

Hi Spencer,

USB2COMn is actually just another name for the PrimerVirtualCOM1.1 application that is loaded onto the STM32 Primer Target. Indeed it is the the text displayed at the top of the Primers display while the application is running on the Primer. The reason why it has this other name 'USB2COMn' is because the circleOS1.7 under which it runs identifies applications by a name limited to 8 characters.

The PC software that you run to talk to PrimerVirtualCOM can be Windows Hyperterminal, any other dumb terminal emulation program like say Procomm, terminal, IVT, or your own software (written in say Microsoft VB/C#/C++ Express Edition 2005/2008) that allows you to choose the serial COM port you want to use. Hope this helps.

Bob:-)
