extending the range of bluenrg

I am developing an application for bluenrg that requires extended range. Is there a way to configure the bluenrg such that it outputs on two of the test pins when the transmitter and receiver are turned on so that an external power amplifier can be hooked to the bluenrg? I notice that in the IFR area there is a byte called GPIO config but not information on what it does?

Does anyone else have any experience with extended range on the bluenrg?
