I have simple question about snubberless triac. When it is said that the triac is snubberless do still need an external snubber circuit?

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, but it can help anyone else.

No. No need of a snubber with a snubberless Triac.

The definition of a snubber is a R-C circuit in parrallel of the device to help it to be properly turned off.

The Snubberless technology by ST allows to have devices with a strong turn-off commutation performance (see dI/dtc parameter, and whatever the dV/dt reppalied to the device).

I can advice you to read the application note AN 439 'Snubberlessâ„¢ and logic level TRIAC behavior at turn-off' for more information.

Best Regards

Benoit
