HSE osc 4-16MHz or 1-25MHz

Hi All,

Does anyone know whether the HSE osc range is 4-16MHz or 1-25MHz. Datasheet (4-16MHz) and user manual (1-25MHz) indicates two different values.

Thanks,

Kerem

Ok. I understand. Thanks for the input. Terminology mislead me. The manual says 1-25 MHz OSCILLATOR. So I thought it was the oscillator. Anyhow it is clear now. Thanks.

Hi Kerem,

If you look carefully in the datasheets, you will see that both are correct : See table : ''High-speed external user clock characteristics'' & table ''HSE 4-16 MHz oscillator characteristics'' : Let me explain this :

In the first case, you provide a clock signal with an External Oscillator, in that case STM32 can run up to 25Mhz, in the second case you provide just a (quartz+ 2caps) or a resonator and the oscillation is done internally by the embedded High Speed Oscillator, in that case STM32 can run from 4Mhz to 16Mhz.

Hope this is helpful 🙂
