I don't need the RTC in my app, can I just tie the X1RTC pin to gnd, and leave the X2RTC pin open? Don't want to use an crystal. Does anything inside care if the RTC is not running?

Hi,

Yes, there is no problem to connect X1RTC pin to ground, and leave the X2RTC pin open.

Note that the only peripheral that needs the RTC clock to operate is the RTC itself, so if you are not using the RTC you can of course stop its clock.

Thanks,

Hi,

Just I would like to add that RTC clock is necessary if you want to exit from sleep mode, so if you are planning to use the sleep mode for low power consumption in your application then the RTC quartz should be connected.
