hello everyone! i am currently looking into using the SPI port on the STR712FR2T6 part. i noticed that the SSN pin is always show as pulled HIGH when the uC is the Master. am i to assume that this SSN pin cannot be used as a PORT0 output pin? It cannot be used as the chip select to an SPI EEPROM? so its wasted during Master mode? thanks for any info.

The SS on the master must be deasserted high :o You have to use another GPIO pin drive the EEPROM chip select line .
