[HW] Direct connect between Ports of STM32s?

If two STM32 devices are wired together in a system, is it necessary to place fairly small series resistors between the port connection to limit the current in case a port or ports somehow starts driving current to the other processor and possibly degrades or destroys it? This is not a big problem to do except that the series resistance somewhat reduces the maximum SPI baudrate between the STM32 parts, e.g., can go 18Mbps w/o resistors but only 9Mbps works with the resistors on the SPI signals.

No, it's not necessary.

''in case a port or ports somehow starts driving current to the other processor''

Just be careful to ensure that doesn't happen!
