STM32F413 fullduplex I2S?

Posted on March 05, 2017 at 20:52

STM32F413

http://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/products/microcontrollers/stm32-32-bit-arm-cortex-mcus/stm32f4-series/stm32f413-423/stm32f413vh.html

says:

Up to 5 SPI/I2Ss (up to 50 Mbit/s, SPI or I2S audio protocol), out of which 2 muxed full-duplex I2S interfaces

Similar text can be found at the beginning of datasheet. The I2S chapter, though goes even further, explicitly stating (DocID029162 Rev 3, 3.26  Inter-integrated sound (I2S)):

Five standard I 2 S interfaces (multiplexed with SPI1 to SPI5) are available. They can be

operated in master or slave mode, in simplex communication mode, and full duplex mode

for I2S2 and I2S3.

Besides that I have no idea what 'muxed full-duplex' might mean, I can't find a single mention of full-duplex I2S in RM0430 rev.2; contrary, the I2S subchapter is very specific in that it's half-duplex only.

ST, can you please comment.

Thanks,

Jan Waclawek

Okay, I found out myself: the 'F413 contains two I2Sext units just like 'F407 does.

However, RM0090 clearly explains throughout the whole I2S subchapter with extra details in 28.4.2  I2S full duplex.

So, consider this post as a complaint at the gross inadequacies of RM0430.

Hi Jan,

Please note that your feedback will be taken into account in order to add the missing sub-section where we describe the I2S full-duplex (as well as I2S block diagram in I2S general description).

Thanks again for your help to enhance the quality of our documents.
