It is not ignored. Rather, the I2S state machine does not reset at an edge of WS, as might be expected, but at level. That's why the slave should be started when the WS level is ''inactive'' (polarity of which is dependent on the format).

Yes. However, as the I2Sext is usually started in a tight sequence with its ''master'' I2S unit, it is quite unlikely it gets out of sync even if it is started in the ''improper'' state of WS. The bug has to be borne in mind, though.
