Stand alone stepper motor control and driver

Hi.

we're developing a new mobile machine which has to operate stand alone. We are using two bipolar stepper motors. Searching on the internet we came across the L297 and L298N combination. Is is possible to use this as a stand alone combination? If not, what else do we need to use it as a stand alone driver and controller? MCU?

It has to be light weight, small and easy to produce in large quantities.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Ing. WPJ Peters

Dear

Ing. WPJ Peters,

The answer depends on the meaning of stand-alone.

The L297 + L298 combination offers the complete circuitry needed to drive a stepper motor. Anyway the L297 inputs should be driven by a MCU in order to define direction and step rate.

If you are looking for a true single IC solution you can use the L6208 or L6228 parts

also

.

Kind Regards
