Capacitive Proximity Sensor

Hello,

I need to built a capacitive proximity sensor with a range of at least 3''.

What is the best sensor/controller that you advise me to use? I have been reading some things about STM8T143, but it's not easy to buy it.

I need some samples to verify it's range and compatibility with our product.

Is there any other sensor/controller from ST that is indicated to this task?

Thank you all for your time!

Paulo,

You are right, the best touch controller for your application is the STM8T143. This low cost device is very easy to use. To get samples, I recommend you to directly contact your local distributor or ST sales office.

Alternatively, you can use a STM8TL52 device which is a standard STM8 microcontroller with an advanced capacitive sensing peripheral. You will need to develop the firmware for your application based on the free touch sensing library offered by ST.

Best Regards,

Thierry,
