Can L6206 be used as 4 half H bridges?

I want to use the L6206 to drive 4 solenoids (one end of the solenoid each solenoid will be grounded) of 2.5amps each. Can this be done without damaging the IC. ? Also each of the bridges two halfs will not be drived simultaneously. Means the 2 solenoids on 1st bridge will be used only alternatively and never simultaneously. Can this be done?

In a case if both bridges are simultaneously turned on the data sheets says it will have Vs on its output pins, I had a question if this condition though it would not ever occur would be bad for the circuit reliability.

Thanks

Yes, you can use the L6206 in this condition (OUT1 current + OUT2 current is alwais lower than maximum rating).

If both the side of the full-bridge are turned on, the overcurrent threshold is triggered and the device is protected. In fact the OCD circuit measures the sum of the currents flowing into the high side mosfets of the bridge.

However this application could be limited by the power dissipation. When both sides (bridge A and bridge B) of the IC source 2.5 Arms the power dissipation is:

2 x (Iout)^2 x Rds(on)HS = 2 x (2.5)^2 x 0.6 = 7.5 W

This is a very high value and requires a good thermal design in order to keep the IC below the thermal shutdown temperature.
