For the life of me I can't find the recommended PCB layout guide for the above chip (STM32L053R8)? Can anyone be so kind and link? Does it exist? Am I searching for the wrong thing?

Best Regards,

Sam

I am not a PCB expert, but I often check the gerber files of Nucleo board and discovery boards, sometimes even EVAL board. (Just to make sure my hardware colleague makes no mistake.)

Such as followings:

http://www.st.com/resource/en/board_manufacturing_specification/stm32l0538-disco_gerber.zip

http://www.st.com/resource/en/board_manufacturing_specification/nucleo_64pins_gerber.zip

As for general guideline of crystal oscillator, the following document helped me a lost:

http://www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/technical/document/application_note/c6/eb/5e/11/e3/69/43/eb/CD00221665.pdf/files/CD00221665.pdf/jcr:content/translations/en.CD00221665.pdf

For nucleo board, it's simple two-layer PCB, with altium designer project directly offered.

You can directly import it into your favorite design tool.

For discovery board and eval, there are generally only gerber files, you may try to contact ST for other supports.

Hope that helps you!

Zt.
